About Cocinoa
Cocinoa was born to answer a question asked every day in almost every home: "what are we eating today?". It is a free website and app to plan the week's meals, do the shopping in one go, use up what is already in your pantry and cook step by step without getting lost.
Who is behind it
Cocinoa is an independent project by Joan Ramon Vilaplana. There is no supermarket chain, food brand or media group behind it: nobody pays for a recipe or a product to appear on the site.
What you will find
- Recipes with ingredients, allergens, approximate nutrition information and step-by-step method, with a cooking mode that guides you and keeps track of the timers.
- Planning: a weekly planner that takes your servings, allergies and preferences into account and builds the shopping list, leaving out what you already have.
- Guides and articles on the blog about techniques, food storage, kitchen organisation and eating well on a budget.
- In season: which fruit and vegetables are at their best each month (in Spanish), at /temporada.
- The Café: brewing methods, coffee drinks and a catalog of origins, roasts and equipment, at /en/coffee.
Where the recipes come from
Cocinoa has three kinds of recipes:
- Our own recipes, written here from scratch: traditional Spanish and Catalan cooking, preserves and every recipe of the Café.
- Community recipes, published by users. They are moderated before they appear in the catalog, under the publishing rules.
- Recipes from an open catalog (TheMealDB), credited on each one. We review them by hand to fix steps that made no sense, temperatures without a unit or translations that changed the meaning. If you spot anything odd, please tell us.
We write in Spanish, and many of our own recipes in Catalan too. The versions in other languages are translated automatically and reviewed over time.
How we work
- Nutrition information is an estimate calculated from public food composition tables. It is a guide, not a replacement for advice from a health professional.
- Allergens: we show those declared for each ingredient, but always check the labels of the products you buy.
- Food safety: storage times and preserving techniques follow the usual public-health recommendations. When in doubt, don't take the risk.
How it is funded
Cocinoa is free and wants to stay that way. To pay for the server and the time it takes:
- it may show discreet ads: never banners covering the content and never ads while you cook;
- if you prefer not to see them, you can buy the ad-free option, a single payment for the website and the app;
- some equipment links in the Café go to Amazon and are affiliate links: if you buy through them, Cocinoa earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is always stated next to the link.
