Milk spumer

Milk spuma without espresso machine: with a hand-to-battery mixer or an electric pitcher that heats and beats at the same time.

Indicative price
€10–100
Capacity
150–300 ml

A foamer puts air in the milk to make foam. There are two types: hand-held, a small rod to batteries, and the electric jars, which heat and hit at the same time with a magnetic disk.

The hand-held ones work on the already hot milk, at 55-65 ° C: tilt the glass and keep the rod right under the surface until the milk double its volume. The jars do it alone, and many also prepare cold foam for ice drinks.

  • Please: cheap and no espresso machine.
  • In favor: the jars make hot or cold milk with a button.
  • Against: foam is thicker than steam microfoam.
  • Against: no fine drawings in the cup.

Guidance prices: hand-held, €10-20; electric jars, €40-100. In the jars, see that the interior is non-stick and easy to wash, and that they are cold-shaped.

Cheapest alternative: a French press. Put the hot milk in and go up and down the plunger about 20 times. You can also shake cold milk in a closed jar and warm it later, without a lid, in the microwave.

This coffee bar runs on coffee… literally. And the odd ko‑fi.
