Did you know you can play a wine-guessing game with your friends?

A tasting among friends is more fun when there's something at stake. With Cocinoa's Tasting game, every glass is a question and every right answer scores points.

How to set it up

Create a tasting in la Barra → Tastings → New tasting and, under “How you play”, choose Tasting game instead of the classic tasting. One person plays sommelier: by default that's you, but while you're preparing it you can hand the role to someone else with Make sommelier. You need at least one other player.

The sommelier serves the wines covered and numbered, and is the only one who knows what's in each glass. They can review and correct the right answers before the game starts.

How to play

Everyone else joins by scanning the QR code or opening the tasting link. They can join as guests with just their name, or sign in to save their results. As it's a tasting with alcohol, everyone goes through the age check first.

For each wine, every player answers on their phone:

• the type (white, red, sparkling…), whether it's dry or sweet and whether it's light or full-bodied;
• up to three aromas;
• which wine it is and which D.O. (designation of origin) it comes from, out of four options;
• which price band it falls into.

Each wine is worth up to 100 points: naming the exact wine scores 25, the D.O. and the price 20 each, and the rest is shared between type, style and aromas. If the price band is wrong but close, it still earns something. Answers can be changed in My answers right up to the end.

The big moment: the reveal

When the sommelier decides, they press Finish and reveal. Everyone then sees the Ranking, with the winner and the percentage of correct answers, and All the answers, each marked as right, close or wrong. If someone arrives late, the sommelier can reopen the game.

Not just wine

The game works with every kind of tasting: beer, cider, spirits, alcohol-free, coffee, olive oil, cheese or chocolate. Each type asks its own questions, such as how bitter a beer is or how dark a coffee's roast. And when it's over, badges such as Tasting winner or Fine palate are handed out.
