Reading the label on a packet in the supermarket aisle isn't easy. With Scan, Cocinoa reads it for you.
Scan or type the code
Go to Scan and press Scan with the camera, or type in the barcode number if the camera won't cooperate. Cocinoa looks the product up on Open Food Facts, an open, collaborative database.
Is it healthy?
The product page opens with a score from 0 to 100 and a verdict: healthy, fair, not very healthy or unhealthy, with the reasons (“lots of sugar”, “no additives”, “it's ultra-processed”…). It's an indicative score that combines the Nutri-Score, the additives and the degree of processing.
Below that you'll find the details:
- the Nutri-Score and the NOVA processing group;
- the nutrients per 100 g, per 100 ml or per serving, with traffic-light colours and the percentage of your daily intake;
- where the calories come from;
- the additives, each with its function and its risk level;
- the allergens, whether it's vegan and whether it contains palm oil.
The data comes from Open Food Facts and may be incomplete, so treat it as a guide.
Into the pantry
With Save to the pantry, Cocinoa works out which ingredient it is, takes the quantity from the packaging and lets you say where you keep it and when it expires. In the pantry the product shows its Nutri-Score and, with View details, you can see all the information again. It will also feed into the suggestions of what to cook with what you have.
Your privacy matters too: Open Food Facts only receives the barcode number.
Try it in Scan.
For information only. It does not replace advice from a health professional.
